The City of Maple Ridge requires a Highway Use Permit, issued by the Engineering Department, for any activity that occupies or obstructs a City road, boulevard, sidewalk, or right-of-way. The City's Transportation list for this permit explicitly includes temporary storage such as bins or containers, as well as oversize and overload vehicle movements, so a container on the street or a truck occupying the right-of-way falls under it. You must apply online through citizenportal.mapleridge.ca. The City does not accept paper, email, or in-person applications. The checklist, revised July 31, 2025, requires a completed application with drawings, the dates of placement, and a traffic management plan. You must also provide a certificate of liability insurance naming the City of Maple Ridge as an additional insured, with a limit of five million dollars, a thirty-day cancellation notice, and a cross-liability clause, plus a refundable security deposit.
