Scoped to your move
No one-size price list. Your rate reflects your inventory, your stairs, your parking, and your kilometres.
Strathcona movers who know the narrow laneways, the permit rules, the Edwardian stairs, and the construction traffic at St. Paul's. One flat rate, confirmed up front.
Every Strathcona quote is a flat rate scoped to your move: what you own, the access at both ends, and the distance between them. No hourly meter ticking while you wait on a loading zone.
No one-size price list. Your rate reflects your inventory, your stairs, your parking, and your kilometres.
Someone who has carried a couch up a Vancouver walk-up reviews every quote before it goes out. The price we confirm is the price you pay.
New couch? Extra stop? We review the price with you before move day. Nothing changes without a conversation.
Every Strathcona move packs the same way: our uniform tubs fill the truck floor to ceiling, wall to wall, then the furniture goes in. No loose boxes stacked on your couch.
Strathcona is Vancouver's oldest residential neighbourhood, located immediately east of Chinatown. The working bounds run from Gore Avenue to Clark Drive, and from East Hastings Street down to the False Creek Flats and former viaduct lands along the Prior and National corridor. Moving in Strathcona requires planning for the historic housing stock, the narrow lots, the permit rules, and the construction traffic at the Flats edge. Nash Moving scopes every address in advance so you get one flat rate that covers the actual job, including the stairs, the permits, the carry, and the route planning. We do not guess at the logistics. We know the lane widths, the stair constraints, and the traffic patterns. The number you confirm is the number you pay.
Strathcona is defined by Victorian and Edwardian heritage houses built between the 1890s and the 1910s. These homes often sit on narrow 25-foot lots with tight interior footprints. Many properties have been converted into character suites or divided into walk-ups, which creates narrow hallways and compact staircases. The interior layouts in these older buildings require careful navigation, and the crew must be prepared for tight turns and low headroom in some conversions.
The MacLean Park area introduces a different housing mix. This zone combines 1960s public housing, co-ops, and non-market buildings among the heritage homes. Some of these buildings have dedicated loading zones, specific move-in protocols, or requirements managed by the housing provider. We coordinate with the building management or co-op office to confirm any rules before move day. This ensures the truck is allowed in and the schedule does not stall. Newer laneway infill units are also appearing in the neighbourhood, often sharing driveways and tight access points with the original houses. We check for infill developments at quote time to ensure the truck has clear access. The flat rate accounts for the actual effort of navigating all of these layouts. There are no extra charges for stairs, narrow turns, or the carry distance.
Rear-lane access is common in Strathcona, especially on the side streets off Keefer and Prior. Lane loading is a regular part of moving in this area, but the lanes vary in width. Large moving trailers frequently cannot stage inside the lanes, so the truck must park on the street with a temporary street occupancy permit. We assess the lane width and access at quote time to determine the best staging plan.
The City of Vancouver requires seven to ten business days after payment to process and post the signs. The signage fee is $138.46 per seven-day period, plus meter rates where pay stations apply. We handle the permit application when you book so the truck parks legally and the crew can start immediately. If you need a permit faster, we can email engineering to check feasibility, but approval is not guaranteed. The City crew posts the signs one to two business days before the start date. Residents moving in or out are exempt from insurance requirements. Moving companies must file a Commercial General Liability certificate naming the City of Vancouver before the permit is issued. There is no circling for a parking spot on move day. The flat rate includes the work of moving everything from the legal staging spot to your door.
Prior Street and Venables serve as the east-west spine of Strathcona. This corridor remains a through traffic route. The safety calming measures from the 2020 to 2022 pilot are still in place, and the promised downgrade to a local street has not happened. This means steady through traffic even during typical move times. The Station Street edge meets the Flats, where the new St. Paul's Hospital is nearing major completion. This brings ongoing heavy construction traffic where Station Street, Prior, and Malkin meet the Flats, which can delay access to addresses near that edge.
Rail crossings on the Flats can also hold up trucks near Glen and Raymur. Large vehicles are limited to three hours of street parking from 6am to 10pm and have no street parking from 10pm to 6am citywide. We route the truck around the congestion and time the arrival to avoid the worst delays. Hastings Street, Terminal Avenue, and East 1st Avenue offer parallel routes, and we use the best path for your specific address. The crew may stage on a quieter cross street or use a lane to keep the move on schedule. Rush-hour parking restrictions no longer apply on Prior Street between Gore and Raymur Aves, but the traffic flow remains steady.
Strathcona has several community anchors that influence local traffic and curb access. The Strathcona Community Centre at 601 Keefer Street hosts programming and events that draw visitors. MacLean Park at 710 Keefer Street runs a summer music series and outdoor programming. The MacLean Park Music Series runs from July 12 to September 27, 2026, and the Strathcona Community Centre summer programming also moves outdoors to the park. These events add foot traffic and can affect curb access near the park edge. We monitor the event calendar to avoid scheduling conflicts.
Strathcona Park at 857 Malkin Avenue borders the Flats and sees recreational use. Lord Strathcona Elementary at 592 E Pender Street and Admiral Seymour Elementary at 1130 Keefer Street are also located in the neighbourhood. We check for school drop-off patterns and community gatherings at quote time. If your move date coincides with a local event, we plan the route and staging to ensure the work goes smoothly. The flat rate covers the coordination and the move. We confirm the street is clear so the crew can focus on getting your belongings to the right place.

Most addresses in Strathcona require a temporary street occupancy permit to leave the truck on the curb. The City of Vancouver processes signs seven to ten business days after payment. Many properties on the side streets have rear-lane access, and lane loading is common in Strathcona. However, the lanes are often narrow, and large moving trailers frequently cannot stage inside them. If the lane is too small or blocked, the truck must park on the street with a permit. We assess the lane width and access at quote time. The flat rate includes the carry from the street if the lane is not viable. You do not need to clear the lane yourself unless there is a specific obstacle.
