Packing is the part of a move people consistently underestimate, and it is the part that decides whether move day is calm or chaotic. A crew arriving at a half-packed house cannot load efficiently, and the move takes longer than it should for reasons that have nothing to do with the moving.
We pack as much or as little as you want, and it comes with reusable tubs rather than a shopping trip for cardboard.
Full pack, partial pack, or just the hard parts
There are three ways this usually goes:
Full pack. We pack everything, normally the day before the move. You do nothing. This is the right answer when you are short on time, when you are moving a whole family, or when packing simply is not something you want to spend a week on.
Partial pack. We take the slow, breakable rooms and you do the straightforward ones. In practice this almost always means we do the kitchen and you do books, clothes and linens. This is what most people actually want, and it is usually the best value: the kitchen is roughly a third of the packing work in any home and by far the easiest to underestimate.
Fragile-only. Glassware, dishes, art, mirrors, lamps and electronics. Everything else is yours. Good for people who are happy to pack but do not want to be responsible for the wine glasses.
Why the kitchen is always the problem
Every room has a rough packing rate, and the kitchen is the outlier. It is dense, almost everything in it is breakable or oddly shaped, and it has to stay usable until nearly the last minute.
A kitchen that looks like an afternoon is usually most of a day. Cupboards go deeper than they look, there is always a small appliance nobody remembered, and the glassware needs individual wrapping rather than being layered into a box.
If you do only one thing with professional packers, do the kitchen.
Tubs instead of cardboard
Our reusable tubs come with the move. This changes packing in a few practical ways:
- No box run. Nothing to buy, source, or pick up.
- They stack properly. Uniform tubs fill the truck floor to ceiling, wall to wall, and then the furniture goes in around them. Loose cardboard boxes of different sizes waste space and end up stacked on top of the couch.
- Nothing to deal with afterwards. No flattening, no recycling run, no pile in the hallway for three weeks.
- They do not collapse. A cardboard box that got damp in a garage will fail at the worst moment. Tubs will not.
For the things tubs do not suit, we use what does: wardrobe boxes with a hanging rail for clothes that should not be creased, new plastic covers for every mattress, and purpose-built protection for mirrors and artwork.
Packing the day before
For anything larger than a one-bedroom, packing the day before the move is usually the better plan. Packing and moving on the same day makes for an extremely long day, and the packing end of it inevitably gets rushed, which is when things get broken or lost.
Packing the day before means the moving crew arrives to a house that is genuinely ready. The load goes faster, the day is shorter, and nobody is taping a box while the truck waits.
What you should pack yourself
Regardless of how much you have us do, keep these with you rather than on the truck:
- Personal documents, passports and anything legal
- Jewellery and small valuables
- Medication and anything you need daily
- Chargers, laptops and the router
- A change of clothes and basic toiletries for the first night
Tell us at quote time what you are keeping back so the scope reflects it.
What we will not pack
There are things no moving company should put on a truck, and it is better to say so plainly. Flammable liquids, propane tanks, aerosols, and anything corrosive stay behind, along with open food and anything alive. If you are not sure about something, ask when you get your quote rather than on the morning.
It is scoped into the flat rate
Packing is quoted as part of the same flat rate as the move. The price is built from what actually needs packing in your actual home, not from a per-hour packing meter that starts at the front door.
The price we confirm is the price you pay. Whether it is the whole house or just the kitchen, you know the number before anybody opens a cupboard.

What is the difference between a full pack and a partial pack?
A full pack means we pack everything, usually the day before the move, and you touch nothing. A partial pack means we handle the parts that are slow and breakable, most often the kitchen, and you do the straightforward things like books and clothes yourself. Partial is what most people actually want, because the kitchen is roughly a third of the packing work in any home and the easiest part to underestimate.
Do I have to buy boxes?
No. Our reusable tubs come with the move, and they stack better than cardboard so the truck packs tighter. If you would rather use cardboard for some things you can, but there is no box-buying trip and nothing to flatten and recycle afterwards.
How long does packing take?
A one-bedroom is usually a few hours; a family house is a full day and sometimes two. The kitchen is always the slowest room, and garages and basements are always slower than people expect. We scope it against your actual place rather than a bedroom count, because two homes with the same number of bedrooms can differ enormously in what is actually in them.
Can you pack the day before the move?
Yes, and for anything larger than a one-bedroom it is usually the better plan. Packing and moving in a single day makes for a very long day and a rushed pack. Packing the day before means the crew arrives on move day to a house that is genuinely ready, and the move itself goes much faster.
What about things I would rather pack myself?
Completely normal, and we build the quote around it. Most people want to handle personal documents, jewellery, medication and anything sentimental themselves, and that is the right instinct. Tell us what you are keeping back and we scope the rest.
Do you unpack too?
We can. Most people want the tubs placed in the right rooms and unpacked themselves over the following week, which is included in how we work. If you want a full unpack, say so at quote time so the crew's day is planned for it.
